Red Dragon
Stats
Faction: Demon
Type: Dragon
Attack: 1
Health: 5
Abilities: Firebreath 2, Flying
Ready Time: 12 (T4) / 10 (T7)
Set: Expert Pack
It came to a point where the meta of the pros and the richest players were using dragons of any kind, even the green ones.
Flying is an overrated ability, and for a reason. There will be a lot of times that your powerful tank will be slowly desimated by your opponent's flying units just because you cannot hit their health points.
There are 3 T7 Expert Pack Dragons that are seeing heavy play for quite some time now: Black, Red and White. Each of them have their own abilities aside from flying. But if you would ask me how would I rank them, Black Dragon is at the bottom. It's not that BD sucks, it's just that its effect has the least impact among the 3. Having 2 attack and is the highest among the 3, and drainbolt 1 can really prolong its life. But it does not offer enough control and offense when compared to the other 2.
Red Dragon can be considered inferior to WHite Dragon but there are circumstances where you would rather have RD doing the job than WD. It terms of control, WD is better as it gives an opponent a 50% chance of not performing its action the next turn. WD also edges out RD when you outflank your opponents since WD can bolt random opponents while an RD on the outer lanes cannot deal any damage with its firebreath as firebreath only works if there are opposing non-immune units in front of it.
I have given a glimpse on how WD trumps over RD. Now let's put RD into the spotlight. RD is an efficient killer as it inflicts everything it's got (1 physical, 2 effect damage) to the opposing unit, plus a burn. Burn is such a potent killer as it never leaves the burned unit (until it dies or gets unsummoned), hitting the opponent 1 point of damage after each end of action of the unit. Technically speaking, RD, WD and BD dish the same amount of damage (3), although RD's burn make it 3 damage +++, depending on how many turns the opponent will get knocked out. Another asset that RD has over WD, is that it doesn't get hurt by reflecting units. Sure, a Mirror Contraption will not receive any damage from any kind of special ability but RD will also not take a whopping 3 reflect hit from the Contraption.
Bottom line: which one's the better dragon? Hands down it's WD. But if you think about it, a pinch of firebreath won't hurt that much. Lingering effects such as burn hastens the progress of the game. Just like any other flying units, archers will take the lights out for them. But with effects such as these, the risks involved in playing them equates to or at times surpasses the leverage it gives to the user.
I may put this card as my #2 most favorite in Expert Pack cards.
Ratings
Speed: 6
Not ideal for small-squad battles, but wreaks havoc in 3s/4s
Utility: 8
Firebreath is one effect that does not backfire against reflect
Versatility: 7
Having a firebreathing dragon gives you more options on how you would lay out your squad, scared of reflect? try this to add spice
